Travel columnist Betsa Marsh has won two writing awards for The Connection pieces at a recent meeting of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Central States Chapter in Amarillo, TX. SATW is the preeminent professional organization of travel communicators in the U.S. and Canada. The Central States Chapter includes travel journalists from 22 Midwestern states.
A two-part series on celebrating Mardi Gras in Lake Charles, LA, published January and February 2017, won first place for the Best Travel Series Appearing in a Newspaper, Magazine or Travel Website. The stories were “Mardi Gras glitters in Lake Charles, LA,” and “Sizzling gumbo and zydeco spark Mardi Gras.”
Another of Marsh’s travel pieces, “Witchy, kitschy fun in Salem,” published October 2017, won second place for the Best Newspaper Travel Article on U.S./Canadian destinations.
Marsh, who has reported from more than 100 countries on seven continents, has been a The Connection travel columnist since 2009.
